smartphone-312816_640.jpg

Having a smartphone is almost a necessity on today’s college campus. They give you info about your calendar, your assignments, your emails and what your friends are up to. A number of colleges even have their own apps to help out students get to online portals and access critical information. Trident University Ph.D. students recently got access to an all-new app which helps them find the info they need, no matter where they happen to be studying.

The buying advice experts at Consumer Reports recently published a list of apps that they have tested that should help make navigating college easier. Their first pick is an Android app called Studious, which lets you enter in class schedules and assignments, store notes and photos and will even silence your phone during class time.

For reference apps, it’s hard to beat long time favorites, Merriam-Webster and Dictionary.com. These apps...

2015 F-150 adds new standard features to all trim levels

15FordF150_11.jpg

With a new, weight-saving aluminum body, new and updated engines, all-new styling and a ton of new standard features, you would expect the 2015 Ford F-150 to cost a lot more than the 2014 model. Good news for buyers is that prices have not jumped that much, with the F-150 XL and XLT models starting at only $395 more than last year.

The bestselling XLT trim gets many new standard features though, including a 4.2 inch LCD in the dash, a 2.3 inch display in the instrument cluster, telescoping steering wheel, two extra speakers, BoxLink adjustable tie-down anchors and a power tailgate lock. A new 3.5 liter V6 comes standard, replacing last year’s 3.7, and a new 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6 is available which gives the same power as many mid-range V8 engines.

The 2015 Ford F-150 also adds many new optional features, including new safety technology. An available 360-degree camera view shows a...

Trident University Mobile App.png

Trident University International, a completely online accredited university, recently released their first mobile application in an effort to accommodate the growing needs of busy students. The new app is available for both iOS and Android devices, and can be downloaded in either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

The new app, called “Trident University Mobile App,” is available as a free download. The app was created in-house by members of the Trident University Information Technology department. It was designed to give easy access to news, academic dates, phone numbers for student services, finance information and answers to general questions.

Designing the exhaust note for the 2015 Ford Mustang

Mustang50thEdition_10_HR.jpg

When Ford was developing the all-new 2015 Mustang, they had the challenge of creating unique and powerful sounding exhaust notes for all three different engine options. Each had to have a character all its own, while still letting the driver know and feel that they were driving a Mustang.

Powertrain noise, vibration and harshness engineer Shawn Carney was tasked with making sure every new Mustang sounds like a Mustang should. A lot of work was put into making the rest of the Mustang quieter than ever, so making sure the engine sounds just right was very important.

With the all-new 2.3 liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine, the Mustang team knew they wouldn’t be able to get the exhaust to sound like the V8, so they decided to give it a unique sound. They benchmarked a number of cars to find what others had to offer, then Carney put together the notes he felt were most appropriate for the...

What tech features to look for in your next car

Although safety and fuel efficiency are at the top of everyone’s list when buying a used car, the most fun and useful aspects about a car are the new technologies being integrated into modern vehicles. In the past few years, automakers have been rolling out more and more technology in their vehicles to add convenience and safety. The folks at Kelley Blue Book put together a list of what they think are the best new technologies found in cars today.

A perennial favorite is Bluetooth connectivity, and even though it has been around for nearly two decades, it still is one of the most shopped for features for cars. Bluetooth now allows smartphone owners to connect certain apps to the in-car infotainment system, stream music, send text messages and make phone calls without having to ever plug anything in.

Convenience features like keyless access and push button start are now appearing on...

Some used cars have gone up in value this year

010512Forester12.jpg

It is common knowledge that when you drive a new car off the dealer lot, it significantly drops in value. The first year of car ownership is the hardest when it comes to resale value, especially among luxury cars. Kelly Blue Book recently found that a number of used cars actually appreciated in value when compared to last year, which is a welcome surprise for their owners.

The total number of vehicles that appreciated in value was 23, and they were all not just in one segment. Examples include the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu, which went up 4.1 percent in value, and the 2012 Subaru Forester, which increased 5.8 percent over last year.

The reason for these surges in resale value are not perfectly clear, but analysts suspect that the unusually harsh winter may be the cause, as wholesale prices for cars typically drop in winter, only to rebound in spring. This year that rebound was more...

Five row side airbag debuts on 2015 Ford Transit

506A0429.jpg

Ford is introducing what could be the largest airbag ever fitted to a production vehicle with the new 2015 Ford Transit 15-passenger wagon. The new side curtain airbag covers five rows of seating, and is the largest in any Ford vehicle, measuring nearly 15 feet long and 3 feet tall.

This side curtain airbag is built to deploy in the event of a side-impact or rollover crash, and will provide better head and neck protection for passengers. It is part of Ford’s Safety Canopy System in the Transit, and also features two of the industry’s largest inflators to fill the 120 liter bag in a fraction of a second.

The side curtain airbag is tethered to the Transit’s B-, C- and D-pillars to keep it supported when it is deployed. The bag will remain inflated for several seconds to ensure maximum protection for occupants. This new side airbag will be standard on all wagon versions of the Ford...

How to know if a used car is too good to be true

CHR199712010217__mid.jpg

When looking for a used car online, there are a number of factors that make certain cars stand out against others for sale, such as price, mileage and age of the vehicle. Sometimes a price can seem too good to be true, however, and as Consumer Affairs and iSeeCars.com found out, they typically are.

You would expect a car that has high mileage or is in need of a lot of repairs to have a lower cost than similar models. However, when there are no apparent issues or problems pointed out by the seller and the price is well below comparable models, you may be the victim of a scam.

All major defects or prior issues with the car should be disclosed before purchase, such as a salvage title, flood damage or major accident. Many times a car may look perfectly fine, but it has been totaled at one point and now has a value-reducing salvage title. When a dealer does not disclose this information...

2015 Ford Edge is brand’s technology showcase

edge.jpeg

The all-new 2015 Ford Edge will arrive in North America early next year at Ford dealerships across the country. The new design is more modern and chiseled than before, though it still evokes the styling of the original, first-generation Edge crossover.

The Edge has been moved to a more modern platform, and is now based off of the Ford Fusion, rather than the older Ford Taurus. This should mean better handling for the mid-size SUV, and will help lower the overall weight of the vehicle. The new Edge will also be the first Ford vehicle to have an EcoBoost engine come as standard, with the new version of the 2.0 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder.

The updated Edge Sport version will be the first to feature Ford’s new adaptive steering technology to improve driving dynamics. The Edge Sport will also have a new 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6, which will have over 300 horsepower, and stiffer suspension...
