Universities adapting to use new technologies
Technology’s importance in how we live and work is constantly growing and changing, and using it effectively in higher education has become more important than ever. Recently, the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) met in Yokohama, Japan to discuss the changes needed in higher education in regards to technology.
This year’s program theme was “Creating the Future of Higher Education,” and it focused on how universities around the world can change to stay current with the use of technology in the workplace. Being responsive to students and their changing needs is what is going to keep university education relevant, no matter the country, degree type or level of education.
Today’s graduates are being asked to know so much more information right out of school, and need to be able to demonstrate skills that will be beneficial to the company’s future. Though unemployment among younger adults is not as high as it was a few years ago, the job market is just as competitive, and graduates need to be able to show they know more than more experienced applicants, who are retiring later and later.
A growing number of universities are focusing on online education, which helps those who want to go back to school to learn more so they can transition into a different career. Online universities such as Trident University are even offering students the chance to earn their Ph.D. in a number of different fields.
Online education will most definitely become more prevalent in the future, as the needs of students change, and the world continues to be more and more technology focused. Universities are noticing the need to keep up with changing trends, which is great news for students around the world.
