New Nissan taxi is at home in New York City

With Nissan continuing to move their way into the quickly growing small cargo van segment with the new NV200, the van already has been living on New York City streets since last fall. Nissan is the exclusive supplier of taxis to the city now, after they won with their Taxi of Tomorrow design two years ago.

The Taxi of Tomorrow is a long departure from the gas guzzling full-size sedans and cramped hybrids that have been the de facto taxi choices since the legendary Checker cab was phased out last century. The Nissan NV200 is a new approach, offering simple transportation that is fuel efficient, easy to drive and offers many features cab drivers of today need - including traction control and an integrated backup camera. The new cab has been available to buy at dealers for a few months, and standard NV200 cargo vans are also available at dealerships like http://www.jimhartenissan.com/ and http://www.newburghnissan.com/.

Those riding in the back are treated to a host of improvements over previous taxis, including more space, overhead reading lights, USB charging ports, independent air conditioning and antimicrobial seat fabric. The NV200 taxi is also the first cab to be crash tested with the divider in place, and has airbags for both the driver and passengers.

A recent story by Automotive News editor Krishnan Anantharaman has him testing the taxi in his home town in Michigan, and has a great story of his experience. http://www.autonews.com/article/20140309/BLOG06/140309843/all-hail-the-new-york-city-taxicab.
